MovieMarathon: Turbo (2013)

Annyeong..

Like I said in yesterday’s post, today I’m going to make a review on DreamWorks’ new movie, Turbo.

A nice synopsis taken from tribute.ca (since I’m too lazy to write my own):
A garden snail named Turbo dreams of becoming the world’s fastest snail. However, his fascination and obsession with speed makes him an outsider in his slow snail community and is a constant embarrassment to his older brother Chet, who is always careful.

After a freak accident one day, Turbo realizes he has been given the power of incredible speed and sets out to do the impossible: compete against the best racers IndyCar has to offer. Although Turbo is an underdog, he achieves the impossible when he refuses to let his limitations stop him from reaching his dreams.

Okay, enough warning. For starters, let’s say that this is an awesome movie. This is not the best DreamWorks movie ever (who can really beat Shrek, Kungfu Panda, and Madagascar series?); however it is still decent enough and offers a lot of funny moments.

I’ve read a lot of reviews that said that this movie is quite similar to Cars and Ratatouille (I think I spelled it right) but since I don’t watch Cars, I can’t really comment on that. However, I do watched Ratatouille, and the only similarities that I can think of is these movies have animals as the main character (garden snail and rat) and they have a family member that oppose their  dream (brother in Turbo and father in Ratatouille). Both Theo (Turbo) and Remy (Ratatouille) have an idol which inspires their dream. Oh, since the main characters of these movies are animals, they have a strong accent human that helps the main character (Mexican in Turbo and French in Ratatouille).

I read a comment on how this movie is illogical, but then who thinks logic in a CARTOON?

Movie logic class from Assoc. Prof. AishaYanna from GrumpyCat University:
  • Turbo: A snail that is submerged in a NOS tank will die from lack of oxygen
  • Madagascar: A lion that is not kept in a cage in a zoo will eat the zebra and the giraffe and probably the hippo, too
  • Kungfu Panda: A panda will never born from a bird, and panda don’t eat a bowl of noodle

Seriously? Hey logic guy, are you Grumpy Cat trying to makes all children in the world cries by making logic cartoon?

I forget to mention that the most memorable line in this movie is simply inspiring:
"No dream is too big, no dreamer is too small"

In conclusion, GET YOUR TURBO ON! This is a great movie; funny, colorful, inspiring. I like this movie a lot, even though it doesn’t make me like snails. For some odd reason, I was reminded of Tamiya cars when they remodel Theo’s shell. And Tamiya cars are awesome, too.

Rating: 4 out of 5

Side note: My favourite characters in this movie are White Shadow and Tito. I usually attracted to big-bellied, funny man and I can’t decide which one I like more. So, I decided to write both. YAY!!

I'm fast, like a shadow! - White Shadow

We are going to do this together, you and me, little amigo! - Tito
